What curriculum does Knox Academy follow?
Knox Academy blends the Montessori method with trauma-informed best practices and hands-on learning experiences. Our curriculum focuses on developing academic skills, independence, and social-emotional growth through individualized learning plans tailored to each child's needs. How is the Montessori approach used in the classroom?
We use Montessori principles like choice, movement, and multi-sensory learning to create a child-centered environment. Students work in small groups or independently, guided by teachers who observe and support their natural curiosity while offering targeted lessons aligned with developmental and academic goals. How are students assessed if there are no traditional grades?
Assessment is ongoing and personalized. Teachers use observation, portfolios, student conferences, and skill tracking to monitor growth. Families receive regular progress updates that reflect the whole child—not just academic achievement, but social, emotional, and behavioral development as well. What is the typical student-to-teacher ratio?
Our classrooms are intentionally small to create a safe, nurturing environment where students can get individualized support. Most classes maintain a student-to-teacher ratio of around 8:1 or lower. How do you support children with learning differences?
We recognize that every child learns differently. Our trauma-informed staff includes educators trained to support neurodiverse learners through accommodations, behavior supports rooted in applied behavior analysis, and flexible instruction. We collaborate with families to ensure each child’s unique strengths and needs are honored. -
Is there a waitlist, and how does it work?
At this time, campus tours and enrollment interviews will take place during the summer months. A more detailed application process is currently being developed to help ensure we keep any waitlist as short as possible. While we do anticipate a waitlist at some point due to growing interest, our goal is to avoid it by planning ahead and growing with intention. What is the application process?
Families complete an application form, followed by a meeting with our leadership team to ensure we're the right fit for your child. We take time to learn about your child’s learning style, needs, and family goals. Are there any required documents for enrollment?
Yes, we require standard documents immunization records or immunization exemption, a copy of the birth certificate, parent ID, and any previous school records, including IEPs or service plans if applicable.Do you offer a trial period or shadow day for prospective students? All new students are subject to a two-week trial period to ensure an appropriate fit between the child and the school environment. During this period, Knox Academy reserves the right to discontinue enrollment at any time if it is determined that the child is not a suitable fit for the program or if the school is unable to provide the necessary services to meet the child’s needs.
